Parted Magic ist ein kleines aber vollständiges Werkzeug zum partitionieren und wiederherstellen gelöschter Partitionen mit eigenem Linux Live Betriebssystem. Es entfällt also das neu starten unter Windows wenn Sie Anpassungen an Ihrer Systempartition vornehmen! Auf Parted und GParted aufbauend ist Parted Magice 6.0 vom 13.04.2011 eine Weiterentwicklung dieser, und beinhaltet zusätzlich noch eine ganze Reihe nützlicher Tools zur Bearbeitung von Partitionen, zur Imageerstellung sowie zur Datenrettung. Nun steht im Bootmenü unter anderem bei der Sprachauswahl auch Deutsch zur Auswahl und Sie können Anpassungen an Pmagic bei Bedarf auch sichern, so das diese beim nächsten Start von Pmagic wieder zur Verfügung stehen!

Parted Magic deckt alle zum partitionieren von Festplatten wichtigen damit verbundenen Funktionen ab, bietet zusätzlich nützliche Werkzeuge wie Partition Image, TestDisk, fdisk, sfdisk, dd oder ddrescue und unterstützt eine Vielzahl an Dateisystemen, unter anderem EXT2, EXT3, EXT4, FAT16, FAT32, HFS, HFS+, JFS, LINUX-SWAP, NTFS, OCFS2, ReiserFS, Reiser4, XFS oder ZFS. Neu hinzugekommen ist das Programm PhotoRec und die Möglichkeit HFS+-Dateisysteme direkt mit GParted erstellen können. Mit diesen Live-Betriebssystem haben Sie nun Netzwerkanbindung und können mit FireFox im Internet nach Problemlösungen suchen.
Diese neue Version von Parted Magic beinhaltet Updates des grafischen Server X.org, die Erweiterung des Netzwerks, eine verbesserte RAM-Auslastung, und behebt einige Fehler. Um einige der Probleme mit der neuen Version von X.org in Verbindung mit Intel-Chipsatz zu beheben, bietet Parted Magic die Treiberversionen intel-2.4.1, intel-2.5.1, intel-2.6.3, intel-2.7.1 als Boot-Optionen an. Es wurde eine neue PPPoE-Option hinzugefügt, um das Netzwerk starten. Die schon vorhanenen Boot-Option "Läuft im RAM" wurde mit der zusätzlichen Option "Live-Boot mit wenig RAM" erweitert. Die Standard Option benötigt nur 192 MB RAM. Der größte Verbesserung ist die wenig RAM-Option, weil diese jetzt mit schon 48 MB läuft.
